August – Back to School
“A new school year means new beginnings, new adventures, new friendships, and new challenges. The slate is clean and anything can happen.” ― Denise Witmer
I don’t know about you but come spring I am ready for the kids to have summer break. I feel we need some time away from the schedule and routine to enjoy the beautiful weather and fresh air. Come late-August I am also ready for them to head back to school. Although summer is filled with sunshine, warm weather, and freedom I can tell our family is also craving a little more structure.
The days leading up to the start of school can be filled with excitement, nerves, and sadness. We each do our best to prepare the students as they head back into the classroom. There is always a little something scary about the unknown, especially if someone is heading to a new school.
As we prepare for the kids or adults to go back to school, here are a few tips to make the transition go a little more smoothly:
- Visit the school ahead of time and meet the teacher
- Remember that teachers know students may be nervous on the first day
- Talk about the fun and positive aspects of starting school
- Start heading to bed earlier and getting up earlier
- Discuss the morning routine
- Have a conversation about being kind and the serious nature of bullying
- Set homework and after school expectations
We all want a successful school year for everyone. It takes each of us to ensure a positive transition back to school.
Have a beautiful day and amazing year!
