January – Hydration

It may be January, but it is still so important to stay hydrated. We may not be outside as much or feeling warm weather, but our body still needs water to stay healthy and feel good. By not drinking enough water we can trigger negative emotions within our mind and body. Dehydration can trigger areas in our brain to make us feel anxious, nervous, or heighten other emotions to remind us we need water. Just like plants need water, so do we. Many researchers believe individuals need to drink about half their body weight in ounces each day. Here are some ways to ensure you are hitting your daily water intake.

  • Get a fun reusable bottle and carry it with you. This will help ensure you are never without water by your side.
  • Start your day with a glass of water before reaching for another morning beverage.
  • You can also get creative and add some flavor to your water. Try adding things such as lemons, cucumbers, or berries to change things up.
  • Herbal tea is a great drink for the winter months to help you consume water, but also keep you warm.
  • Eating raw fruits and vegetables that have a high water content also help. Try items such as celery, cucumbers, or melons to help supplement hydration.
  • Make drinking water part of your routine and/or set goals around how much water to have consumed throughout the day

Each of these tips to incorporate more water into your day will not only help your body feel better during these winter months, but also support your emotional health and well being.
