May – Mental Health Awareness Month
“Your mental health is everything – prioritize it. Make the time like your life depends on it, because it does.” ― Mel Robbins
May is Mental Health Awareness Month and there are so many national and local groups that have been working to explore various aspects of mental health and how everyone can support those within our community who are struggling.
Throughout the month of May, I encourage you to research organizations working to support those working through mental health challenges and see how you can get involved. I would also invite you to ask those around you how they are doing and save space for them.
I am working with my church and the mental health ministry team during May to have a tree displayed in the gathering space, surrounded by colorful clothes pins that will represent the many mental health challenges faced by individuals in our parish and community. These “leaves” will serve as a visual reminder of the struggles others may be going through. We are inviting people to participate by placing a “leaf” on the tree in honor of yourself or anyone you may know who is facing mental health challenges. The tree symbolizes our awareness of those around us who may be struggling and the goal is to promote mental health wellness.
Together, we will work to reduce stigma and support individuals and families facing mental health challenges by providing education, support and resources.
